The Senior Minister and First Vice President of the Mine Authority Ly Thuch, received Miles Hawthorn, President of Halo Trust in Cambodia today, who paid a courtesy call to say goodbye, and introduce Tobias Wehitt, the newly elected President of Halo Trust in Cambodia.

During the meeting, Hawthorn thanked the Mine Authority for its support, partnership, and close cooperation on Halo Trust’s humanitarian mine action programme in Cambodia and also praised the strong leadership of the Mine Authority in managing and coordinating the mine action sector throughout Cambodia.

Hawthorn continued that for more than 30 years, with the support of the Royal Government of Cambodia, Halo Trust has been part of Cambodia’s success in the field of mine action, and although he has completed his mission in the Kingdom, Cambodia and the Cambodian people are always in his heart.

On the occasion, Senior Minister Ly Thuch expressed his deep gratitude for the contribution of Halo Trust in Cambodia since 1991. More than 511 square kilometres of landmines and explosive remnants of war have been cleared by the Halo Trust, along with 322,015 anti-personnel mines, 5,117 anti-tank mines, 219,571 explosive remnants of war, and less than 1.5 million small arms were found and destroyed.

Thuch added that the achievements of Halo Trust came from the support of Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Ireland contributing to the humanitarian mine action programme in Cambodia for more than 30 years.

In that, Ly Thuch thanked all the deminers who carried out the field work and risked their lives to provide safe land for the people of Cambodia.
